| Computers, Maths and the Future by Dave Cliff At school, Dave Cliff was convinced that maths was pointless. Several years later, he started inventing things - including the first ever automated dance-music DJ software; and a program that beats human financial-market traders at their own game. And maths turned out to be quite helpful for these inventions. Dave will talk about his inventions, and the mathematics that sneaked into his work when he wasn't looking. Dave's Biog Dave Cliff is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bristol, and a Fellow of the British Computer Society. He spent several years working for Hewlett-Packard Labs near Bristol and later in the City of London. He's an inventor on 15 patents. |
